PAPER + INK: PAPER AS MATERIAL AND METAPHOR$450
with Isobel Chiang and Hannah Pierce
Paper is a crucial part of a book maker’s craft. Using paper in interesting and thoughtful ways requires not only material sensitivity, but a deep knowledge of how paper is made, distributed, printed on, and bound together. “Paper + Ink: Paper as Material and Metaphor” is a 3 day workshop that focuses on paper within the context of book making, exploring the relationship between paper, printing, and binding.

This is an in-person workshop located at Small Editions’ studio in Brooklyn, NY, with a maximum of 12 participants. We think it’s most suitable for graphic designers, book makers, and folks working in print/book publishing, but any and all are welcome. This class is both theoretical and practical in nature: you’ll leave with a high-level understanding of paper and print production, as well as a game plan for how to implement this knowledge in future book projects.
The cost of this workshop is $450. Tuition includes a custom take-home swatch book, which students will use and refer to throughout the workshop, and which can be used as a tool for their practice moving forward.
