From Your Body to the Cosmos is the zine complement to Shell Pattern Necklace. The zine includes 15 risograph prints on colored papers, reproductions of shell marbled papers specially selected and cropped to focus on some of the most formally beautiful patterns found in the papers created for Shell Pattern Necklace. The book transitions through a rainbow created from both ink and paper. As in Shell Pattern Necklace, differences in texture, pattern, and color are foregrounded. The patterns replicate phenomena found at the smallest and largest scales of creation, from inside of our bodies to the far reaches of space. The title of the book is taken, with permission, from philosopher and new media scholar Laura U. Marks, from her forthcoming book Enfolding-Unfolding Aesthetics: From Your Body to the Cosmos. Each book has a tipped in swatch of Oppenheim’s shell marbled paper, with the pigment indicated on the back. Through this zine edition we seek to make Oppenheim’s marbled work, which is produced in very small editions, accessible to a more general public.
