COLLABORATIVE DRUMLEAF BINDING$250
            WORKSHOP

At our studio, we often refer to drumleaf binding as the perfect structure for uninterrupted spreads (see Rhea Karam’s “PARALLEL PLANES”). It’s highly adaptable to use with fine-art printing methods and various materials and, best of all, doesn’t require studio access to replicate.

“Collaborative Drumleaf” is a two-day workshop taking place over two weekends where participants will create and print their own risograph printed collage spreads that they will then bind into a group publication to take home.

This is an in-person workshop located at Small Editions’ studio in Brooklyn, NY, with a maximum of 6 participants. No prior bookbinding or printing experience is required. Tuition includes materials that will be used to create two copies of their own books, with additional prints to take home.

Participants will be printing directly from the Risograph’s scanner, and should bring objects, printed materials, or other ephemera to be used to create their collage spreads, loosely organized around the theme of “Memory.”

Day 1 (led by Small Editions Director, Hannah Yukiko Pierce) will take participants through publication planning and Risograph printing, while Day 2 (led by long time Small Editions collaborator Sarah Smith of Stockpile) will dive into binding the previous session’s prints into a drumleaf-bound book.
