We accept commissions from artists, editors, museums, galleries, cultural institutions, and design agencies, with a focus on longer-term collaborations.

Book Design
We design books, boxes, enclosures, and other printed materials. With a thorough knowledge of production methods, print solutions, and non-traditional distribution models, our work aims to experiment with and celebrate the form of the book.

We work on projects from editorial ideation to final print, collaborating closely with artists, editors, printers, and suppliers. Our books are concept-driven and carefully consider paper, typography, binding structure, cover materials, printing methods, and reader interactions.

Print Consulting
We use our knowledge of printing, designing, binding, and publishing to consult on the production of artist books. Our consulting services are best suited for clients who have pre-existing InDesign files (already finished or works-in-progress), but who need help bringing their files to life.

We work with a network of vendors—such as commercial and fine art printers, book binders, and specialty fabricators—with whom we’ve built deep and collaborative working relationships.

We consult on:
— pre-production and file preparation
— color separations and management
— material sourcing
— commercial printing (offset, digital offset)
— fine art printing (letterpress, screenprinting)
— binding (industrial, hand-binding)
— specialty finishing
— shipping logistics

Limited Edition Binding
We collaborate with expert binders and craftspeople to produce hand-bound books and enclosures here in our studio in Brooklyn. Our in-house bindery services are for editions of 15 units or less. Because our limited edition projects are hand-made, we place a strong emphasis on materiality, custom binding structures, and experimental construction methods.

To produce larger edition sizes, we work with trade vendors across the US and Europe (see "Print Consulting").

At this time, we do not bind zines, thesis books, or blank mockups/maquettes.

Small Editions is a design studio and artist book publisher. We offer services in graphic design, print consulting, and limited edition book binding. Through our independent publishing imprint, we collaborate with artists to create unique, limited edition artist books.

Our work aims to center the book as a form of art, rather than a vehicle for art. Projects begin from a thoughtful engagement with source content, and are informed by our ongoing research and experimentation in print, materiality, and fabrication.

Small Editions also maintains an independent teaching practice around themes of book making, experimental publishing, and print production. We’ve lectured and taught workshops at Yale School of Art, Princeton University, and Pratt Institute, among others.
