$250ARTISTS’ BOOKS: FROM CONCEPT TO DUMMY
with Hannah Yukiko Pierce
What is an artists’ book? And how do you start one? In this beginner’s workshop you will learn about the origins of artists’ books, see examples of books that successfully bond form to content, and then learn how to take your own idea from concept to dummy. Over two sessions you will research and develop a concept, then bind a complete book dummy to take home. Dummies can be blank, or partially printed with an office inkjet printer, depending on the complexity of the concept and readiness of the content. Each participant will learn a binding method that is unique, tailored to their own individual concept
In order to maximize the time in this intensive, participants should bring only one project idea, and any relevant materials with them on the first day of the workshop. This will allow us to better ideate and provide feedback on each other’s projects during the workshop.
The cost of this workshop is $250. Tuition includes a complete first-round dummy, and resources to continue developing your book project, including how to build a budget for the full edition of your book.
